New or used parts?

Technically the use of "used parts" on a modern vehicle is difficult to say the least! manufactures have for years been locking a module to a vehicle by means of vin (chassis number) or security data unique to each vehicle. Certain manufactures have operated a diagnostic procedure to allow a module to be "unpaired" from a vehicle before it is removed allowing it to be installed in another car, then recoded as required. Vauxhall is such a manufacturer but unfortunately they are one of the few. In order to get around this problem (in most but not all cases) we have to rely on our bench test/programming setup. This allows us to erase or clone the required data so a module can be transferred to a different car. Unfortunately not all modules are possible but the list of manufacturers and modules available is ever increasing.

On a safety and security matter certain modules are not applicable to the solutions.

One of the main reasons for using "used" salvaged parts is the cost. As all of our daily bill seem to be rising dramatically the ability to use second hand modules seems common sense as the costs are significantly lower allowing for more cost effective repairs. Another issue of modern life if the physical shortage of electronic components which is cases server issues in the supply chain, so even if a problem is diagnosed there is no guarantee a new part can be quickly soured. And as vehicles age the willingness to produce new spare parts after for older cars id dropping leaving very little options.
